by Chris Fortey
I was diagnosed with dyslexia during primary school. I received help at both primary and secondary school and attended the Leicestershire Dyslexia Association while at primary school. I finished secondary school with 9 GCSEs, 1 B, 5 Cs, 2 Ds and an E, and received extra help with my exams. After I finished as a student at the Leicestershire Dyslexia Association I went on to become a helper / teacher in the computer workshop for about 6 to 7 years.
I gained the BTEC GNVQ Intermediate and Advanced in Information Technology at the then, Leicester Southfields College (now Leicester College), both with a Merit grade, and again with the option of extra time for my exams and a personal tutor during my first year.
After college I when to Uni where I graduated in 2003 with a First class honours degree in Multimedia Computing. I also qualified for the Disabled student allowance and could have asked for extra time in my exams.
